I am using the following code to get the column information of a table, wondering why the speed is relating to the number of rows of the table. By right it shouldn't, as I did not make use of its data.

I am using SQLservrer2000. It should be faster if I make use of some sytemtables to get these informations However, if I am not using the API of JDBC, do I need make changes when switch to another database?

Please suggest a faster way to get the table columns information and make use of the JDBC API?
